
GARRY JONES
Garry Jones is an artist living and working in Birmingham. He studied theatre design at the University of Central England, graduating BA (Hons) in 1997.
After working in theatre with The Royal Ballet & The RSC, Garry developed an interest in carnival arts. In 1999 he was invited to deliver the first Birmingham. Pride workshops and parade. He subsequently set up his own company “Off our Trolley Carnival and Community Arts” in 2003 and since then has worked successfully on projects across all art forms- big & small, locally, nationally & internationally.
Career highlights:
Working in partnership with the NHS using art as a tool to promote physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Artistic and project co- ordinator for World AIDS Day, Birmingham
Lead artist overseeing 30 schools and organisations at H.M. the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee “Reignbow” Pageant, Shropshire.
Lead Carnival Artist and workshop co- ordinator for Birmingham Pride.
Invited international Carnival Artist at Sydney Mardi Gras.
Lead Carnival Artist (for over 10 years to present) at the annual Birmingham St Patrick’s Day parade.
Children’s art and craft workshop leader and lantern procession artist at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
During the COVID pandemic Garry has taken the opportunity to rediscover his first love of painting. He has recently acquired a dedicated art studio and has been producing his own pieces as well as works to commission.
